What LJ means to me...

When I first started LJ (a whole 13 days ago) I thought it would be a good way to keep friends up to date on little happenings as well as keep up with them. I also thought I would eventually be able to open up a bit a let out some things out and let them go into the universe. To a certain degree that has happened. I've been keeping up with folks to a certain degree and learning more about some friends that are dear to me even though we have never met. But what is LJ really? Well so far it seems that LJ is a place to go find a ton a little quizzes that I can take to take my mind off work. I suppose that counts as stress relief....

but I've already begun to be rather selective about the quizzes. I prefer reading (not always responding to) my friends journals and using mine to collect my thoughts. The quizzes can be fun, but some of them seem like more time-suck than they're worth. I try to do the ones that might actually make me think about something. (The fashion one has sparked a number of interesting comments, esp. in MM's journal.)

I've found I quickly skip over quizzes more already. I've been taking them pretty sparingly. If I find one that reflects how I feel, makes me feel good or causes me to think I'll post it now I know how to 'hide' the thing so it doesn't clog up everyone's page.

I read several journals that I don't always comment on. Sometimes I feel guilty for not commenting on an entry but it would take too long to respond to everything I've read.

As I am sure you have already noticed, I use mine to post pictures mostly. Lots and lots of pictures. Occasionally, I get on a topic that is a little more meaningful or something that just really gets under my skin. Some days I just post to get out of my shell I sometimes hide in. Overall, it's cathartic for me. Even the goofy quizzes...

I stopped doing 99% of the quizzes a long time ago. I found that I got more introspective and enjoyed what I was writing and reading a lot more that way.

I find I am not very interested in the quizzes which possibly makes me more than a little boring. By the time I come here most nights I am getting tired and ready to sleep so I check in with friends, make a comment if I feel I have something to say, make a journal entry and logoff for the day.

It is fun to see the different ways people use their journals, a reflection of how different we all are in real life, I suspect.

If you take a left at Bewilderment Avenue you can take the flyover over Paintown and County Jail straight to Wealthville and avoid them and Hoboville altogether.
